Stony Brook at Northeastern
PREVIEW: Northeastern Hosts Stony Brook in Colonial Opener
BROOKLINE, Mass. (Interstat) — Northeastern (28-18) hosts Stony Brook (20-25) in a Colonial Athletic Association series opener at 3 p.m. Friday at Parsons Field.
The Huskies enter with a 76.9 percent win probability according to Interstat’s ELO system, which projects a 7-6 final. Northeastern owns a strong home record and has won two of three meetings this season, taking the first two games of a March series at Stony Brook before the Seawolves captured the finale 7-6.
Stony Brook is coming off a 7-4 win Tuesday at Saint John’s. Right-hander Nicholas Rizzo (3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 7 K) earned the victory and will be a key arm out of the bullpen. He has been effective in three of his last five appearances, including a scoreless two-inning outing against Towson on April 26. However, he allowed four earned runs in 4.1 innings in an April 29 loss at Rider.
The Seawolves’ lineup features Nick Zampieron, who drove in four runs Tuesday, and Chanz Doughty, who homered and drove in two. Stony Brook has won four of its last six.
Northeastern fell 5-4 at Monmouth on Sunday. Right-hander Ryan McCarroll (4.1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 3 K) took a no-decision despite a strong start. Over his last two appearances, McCarroll has allowed one earned run in 5.1 innings with four strikeouts. The Huskies have won seven of their last 10.
Friday’s weather forecast calls for 62 degrees and cloudy skies. The series continues Saturday and Sunday, with Northeastern traveling to Connecticut on Tuesday before a weekend set at Towson. Stony Brook heads home next week to host Hofstra.
