Butler at Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (Interstat) — The Toledo Rockets host the Butler Bulldogs on Wednesday in a non-conference baseball game at Scott Park Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon, with a forecast of 55 degrees and rain.

Toledo (24-24) enters a game above .500, while Butler (17-27) looks to build on a weekend sweep of Seton Hall.

Butler right-hander Brock Buckley is a player to watch. The Bulldogs’ pitcher earned a win Sunday against Seton Hall, throwing seven innings with two earned runs and nine strikeouts. However, he has been inconsistent. In his previous two outings, he allowed a combined two earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of relief against Creighton, but earlier gave up five earned runs in a loss to Georgetown on April 19 and three earned runs in a loss to Connecticut on April 12.

Toledo designated hitter Cole Cahill is a key bat for the Rockets. He went 3-for-4 with four RBIs in a 20-3 win over Ball State on Sunday. But he was 0-for-4 the day before in a 5-4 win over the Cardinals. Over his last 10 games, Cahill has multiple RBIs in four of them, including a 2-for-5, two-RBI game in a 10-11 loss to Youngstown State on April 21.

Butler won the only prior meeting this season, 11-1 on March 24 in Indianapolis. Both teams are coming off successful weekends. Butler swept Seton Hall, outscoring the Pirates 32-11 over three games. Toledo took two of three from Ball State, including a 20-3 rout Sunday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Toledo victory, giving the Rockets a 66.7 percent probability to win.

Butler opens a home series against Xavier on Friday. Toledo visits Ohio for a three-game series starting Friday, then hosts Bowling Green on Tuesday before Kent State arrives May 14.
