Siena at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. (Interstat) — The Siena Saints visit the Princeton Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Bill Clarke Field in a matchup of two teams seeking to build momentum after midweek wins. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. with the forecast calling for 57 degrees and cloudy skies.

Siena (16-23) enters on a three-game winning streak after defeating Massachusetts 7-4 on Tuesday. The Saints’ offense was led by second baseman Nick Bergamotto, who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and right-hander Casey Vaughn threw four scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits and striking out four. Vaughn also pitched a third of an inning in a 10-0 win over Albany on April 21.

Princeton (13-24) also rides a two-game win streak after sweeping Dartmouth in a Saturday doubleheader, capped by a 9-2 victory. Left-hander Justin Kim earned the win with six shutout innings, scattering no hits and striking out two. Left fielder Brady Kaufman went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and first baseman Tomas Cernius homered and drove in two.

Wednesday’s pitching matchup features two of the hottest arms in their respective rotations. Vaughn has not allowed an earned run over his last 4 1/3 innings. Kim, meanwhile, has allowed two earned runs across 13 combined innings in his previous three outings, including a six-inning, two-hit gem against Columbia on April 12.

The Tigers’ bullpen has been inconsistent, but their offense has shown power. Princeton averages 6.2 runs per game in its last five contests. Siena’s lineup has been even more potent, averaging 8.4 runs during its three-game streak.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 victory for Siena, though the website’s ELO system gives Princeton a 66.2 percent probability of winning.

The Saints continue their road trip Friday at Saint Peter’s, while Princeton opens a three-game home series against Harvard on Saturday.
