UNC Wilmington at Elon

ELON, N.C. (Interstat) — UNC Wilmington and Elon meet Saturday evening at Walter C. Latham Park for the second game of their Colonial Athletic Association series, with the Seahawks looking to build on a dramatic 9-8 victory a afternoon earlier.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and a temperature near 85 degrees.

UNC Wilmington (22-17) holds a 68.5% probability to win according to Interstat’s ELO projections, which forecast a 4-3 final score. The Seahawks have won three of their last four games, including Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina.

Elon (17-24) has lost three of its last four, though the Phoenix pushed the series opener to the brink Friday before falling by a run.

Both lineups feature impactful hitters who starred in Friday’s contest.

Seahawks designated hitter Danny O’Brien went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in the series opener. The performance continued a power surge for O’Brien, who also homered and drove in three runs April 18 against Hofstra. For the season, he has shown the ability to change a game from the middle of the order.

Phoenix right fielder Vincent Fattore countered with a monster game Friday, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. Fattore has been a consistent run producer, collecting at least one RBI in three of his last four games, including a 2-for-3, one-RBI outing April 19 at Campbell.

The pitching matchup was not announced, but both bullpens were heavily taxed Friday. UNC Wilmington’s Cooper Allen threw 3.2 innings of relief, allowing three earned runs. Elon’s Cole Hansen tossed 3.1 innings, surrendering one earned run.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon, then both teams turn attention to extended conference stretches. UNC Wilmington hosts College of Charleston next weekend, while Elon travels to William & Mary for a three-game set.
