Charlotte at Florida Atlantic
BOCA RATON, Fla. (Interstat) — The Charlotte 49ers and Florida Atlantic Owls meet Saturday afternoon at FAU Baseball Stadium, with both teams looking for momentum in an American Athletic Conference series that opened Friday.
Charlotte (19-22) dropped the series opener 3-1 on Friday, managing just five hits. The 49ers have lost six of their last seven games overall heading into the 6 p.m. contest, which carries a forecast of 80 degrees and rain.
Florida Atlantic (20-21) snapped a two-game skid with Friday’s win. The Owls have won three of their last four.
Right-hander James Litman is a player to watch for Florida Atlantic. The Owls’ starter Friday earned the victory, allowing one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts over seven innings. Litman has won his last three decisions, including a six-inning outing against Tulane on April 17 in which he allowed one earned run and struck out four.
For Charlotte, reliever Ryan Combs was effective in a losing effort Friday, tossing 4 2/3 scoreless innings with no hits allowed and five strikeouts. Combs has been used extensively out of the bullpen, appearing in six of the 49ers’ last seven games. He has not allowed an earned run in his last two outings, spanning 6 2/3 innings.
In Friday’s game, Charlotte left fielder Todd Hudson was 2 for 3 with a home run and an RBI.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-1 Florida Atlantic win, while Interstat’s ELO system gives Charlotte a 51.4 percent probability to win.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon, then Charlotte travels to Liberty on Tuesday. Florida Atlantic hosts Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
