San Francisco at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Portland Pilots, fueled by a dominant pitching performance from Trey Swygart and a six-run sixth inning, routed the San Francisco Dons 11-0 in a Sunday evening matchup at Joe Etzel Field to claim the weekend series.

The game’s decisive moment came in the bottom of the sixth, transforming a competitive contest into a blowout. Leading 4-0, the Pilots sent 13 batters to the plate against three San Francisco relievers. The inning erupted when Gage Bruce cleared the bases with a three-run double, pushing the lead to 8-0. Portland added three more runs in the frame, two unearned due to a Dons error, to build an insurmountable 11-run advantage.

Swygart was the catalyst for Portland on both sides of the ball. The starting pitcher delivered 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five to earn the win. He also contributed offensively, going 1 for 2 with a walk, an RBI sacrifice fly in the first inning, and two runs scored. His effort on the mound stifled a Dons offense that had managed a 5-4 victory just a day earlier.

San Francisco’s offense never threatened, mustering only four singles and failing to advance a runner past second base. The Dons loaded the bases with two outs in the second inning but could not capitalize, a missed opportunity that set the tone for their quiet night. Portland pitchers Swygart and reliever Morgan Codron, who recorded the final two outs in the seventh, combined for the shutout.

The Pilots set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning off Dons starter Adrian Valdez. Bruce was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a single by Liam Cote, and scored on an RBI double from Cole Katayama-Stall. Cote then came home on Swygart’s sacrifice fly.

Katayama-Stall was a perfect 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Bruce drove in three. Nolan Miller also added two RBIs for a balanced Portland attack that produced 10 hits.

With the victory, Portland improved to 22-15 overall, while San Francisco fell to an even 18-18. The win gave the Pilots the series two games to one after the teams split the first two contests.

San Francisco next travels to face California on Tuesday. Portland will head to Washington for a midweek game the same day.
