Texas Southern at Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Rain-Soaked SWAC Series Finale Set for Pine Bluff
PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Interstat) — A wet Southwestern Athletic Conference series concludes Sunday afternoon as the Texas Southern Tigers visit the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions at Torii Hunter Baseball/Softball Complex.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening amid a forecast of 57 degrees and rain.
The Golden Lions (17-22) look to secure a series sweep after winning the first two games, including a 6-4 victory Friday. Texas Southern (15-13) aims to salvage the finale and halt a two-game skid.
A key rematch on the mound is anticipated. Texas Southern’s Jace Maynard is expected to start after a tough outing Friday, where he allowed five earned runs over six innings in the loss. For UAPB, Kenney Fabian could be in line after earning the win Friday with six innings of one-run ball, striking out five.
In that game, UAPB’s Zach Wieder went 3 for 5, while Texas Southern’s Christopher Chavez drove in two runs.
The Tigers have lost three of their last four. Beyond Friday’s loss, they were routed 24-4 at Houston Christian on March 31. The Golden Lions have been inconsistent, sandwiching a 12-2 loss at Arkansas between high-scoring wins over Prairie View and Alabama State this month.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 6-5 victory for Texas Southern.
Following the game, Texas Southern visits Houston Christian on Wednesday. UAPB travels to face Central Arkansas the same day.
