Bucknell at Army
Patriot League Series Finale Set for West Point
WEST POINT, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Bucknell Bison and Army Black Knights will meet in the rubber match of their Patriot League series Sunday afternoon at Johnson Stadium at Doubleday Field.
First pitch is scheduled for late afternoon under cloudy skies with a temperature near 71 degrees.
Army (21-15) evened the series with a 2-1 victory Saturday. Bucknell (20-17) aims to secure the series win after the teams split the first two contests, including a 14-3 Army win Friday.
A pitching rematch from Saturday’s duel is anticipated, featuring two of the league’s top arms. Bucknell’s Jake Schultz was brilliant in a hard-luck loss, tossing 5 2/3 hitless innings with one earned run and one strikeout. Over his last five appearances, the right-hander has allowed just two earned runs in 17 innings.
He will likely face Army’s Kevin Reavey, who earned Saturday’s win with five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three. Reavey has been dominant in two of his last three outings, including a six-inning, five-hit shutout performance against Navy on March 28.
The Black Knights’ offense, which exploded for 14 runs Friday, was held in check Saturday aside from a solo home run by two-way player Josiah Overbeek. Bucknell’s offense seeks more production after managing just one run on four hits in the last game, with Garrett Mathias providing the lone RBI.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Army is projected to win 7-5.
Following Sunday’s contest, Bucknell travels to face Penn State on Tuesday. Army will host Marist on Tuesday.
