Evansville at Belmont

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Evansville Purple Aces will look to build on a decisive series-opening win when they face the Belmont Bruins in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup Saturday at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.

First pitch in Nashville is scheduled for the afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature of 83 degrees.

Evansville (14-21, 3-7 MVC) dominated Friday’s series opener, routing Belmont 11-2. The Purple Aces have won four of their last six games.

A player to watch for Evansville is Spike Magill. The outfielder is coming off a powerful performance in a midweek loss at Indiana, where he went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs on April 15.

Belmont (13-25, 4-6) seeks to end a four-game skid, which includes Tuesday’s 10-8, 13-inning loss to Middle Tennessee. The Bruins will hope for a strong outing from pitcher Lake Morris. In his last appearance on April 14, Morris threw 5 2/3 innings against Middle Tennessee, allowing one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Evansville 5, Belmont 3.

Following Saturday’s contest, the series concludes Sunday afternoon. Evansville visits Southern Indiana on April 22, while Belmont travels to Tennessee-Martin on April 21.
