High Point at Charleston Southern
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — The High Point Panthers will look to build on a series-opening victory when they face the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in a Big South Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at Buccaneer Ballpark.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:06 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 86 degrees.
High Point (25-12, 4-3 Big South) outslugged Charleston Southern 14-11 on Friday afternoon to open the three-game set. The Panthers have won seven of their last nine games overall.
Charleston Southern (21-15, 5-2) saw its four-game conference win streak snapped in the opener. The Buccaneers had won their previous three Big South series.
A player to watch for High Point is reliever Jack Carey, who has been dominant recently. Over his last five appearances spanning 11 innings, Carey has allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out four. He earned the win in a 1-0 victory over Wake Forest on March 31.
For Charleston Southern, infielder Cross Yarborough provides a power threat. He hit a two-run homer in his only at-bat Tuesday against The Citadel.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 win for High Point, while its ELO rating system gives the Panthers a 61.3% probability of victory.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon.
