Columbia at Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Interstat) — The Brown Bears will look to continue their winning momentum while the Columbia Lions aim to build off a rare offensive outburst when the Ivy League rivals open a doubleheader Saturday at Murray Stadium.
First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 56 degrees.
Brown (16-13) enters riding a wave of strong pitching, having thrown three shutouts in its last six games. The Bears are coming off a 9-1 midweek win over Holy Cross where starter Bryan Yang was dominant, allowing three hits over six scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Yang, a key player to watch for the Bears, has been excellent in three of his last four outings, pitching 14 scoreless innings with just eight hits allowed against Holy Cross, Merrimack and Bryant.
Columbia (8-19) snapped a four-game skid with a 13-6 road win at Fairfield on Tuesday. The Lions’ offense broke out for 13 hits, led by Hunter Snyder, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs.
Snyder, Columbia’s top performer, has been hot, driving in eight runs over his last three games. His recent surge includes a 2-for-2, one-RBI performance in a loss to Princeton last Saturday.
The teams have followed divergent paths this season. Brown has won five of its last seven, including taking two of three from Dartmouth last weekend. Columbia has struggled in league play, dropping series to both Penn and Princeton in April.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 victory for Brown in the opener.
The doubleheader continues a critical Ivy League series for both clubs. Columbia will look to climb the standings, while Brown seeks to solidify its position near the top.
Game 2 of the twin bill is scheduled to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
