Nevada at New Mexico

Preview: Nevada Wolf Pack at New Mexico Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Interstat) — The New Mexico Lobos, boasting one of the Mountain West’s top records, host the Nevada Wolf Pack in a conference series opener Friday.

The Lobos (22-13-1) enter with momentum from taking a series from San Diego State last weekend, though they fell 6-1 at New Mexico State on Tuesday. New Mexico’s bullpen will be a key factor, with reliever Luke Wiseman as a player to watch. Wiseman threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in that midweek loss.

Nevada (17-14) seeks consistency after a 10-16 road loss at Saint Mary’s on Monday. The Wolf Pack’s offense runs through center fielder Jacob Doyle, who drove in four runs with a home run in that defeat. Doyle has three home runs and nine RBIs in his last 10 games.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 victory for New Mexico, with its ELO rating system giving the Lobos a 54% probability to win.

The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday to complete the series.
