McDaniel Powers Utah Tech to Rout of Washington State

ST. GEORGE, Utah (Interstat) — Kyle McDaniel homered and drove in six runs Wednesday, powering Utah Tech to an 18-8 victory over Washington State at Burns Arena.

The Trailblazers, who trailed 8-1 early, scored 17 unanswered runs. McDaniel’s fourth-inning grand slam gave Utah Tech a lead it never relinquished. Finnegan Stewart and Mays Madsen each added four RBIs for the Trailblazers, who improved to 21-13.

Washington State’s Gavin Roy hit a two-run homer for the Cougars, who fell to 19-18. The Cougars’ eight runs matched the Interstat game simulator’s projection, but the Trailblazers’ offense exploded far beyond the predicted six runs. Utah Tech capitalized on 11 hits and 10 walks issued by Washington State pitching.
