Washington State at Utah Tech
ST. GEORGE, Utah (Interstat) — The Washington State Cougars, riding a four-game winning streak, will face the Utah Tech Trailblazers in a nonconference matchup Wednesday at Burns Arena.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. MDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature near 66 degrees.
Washington State (19-17) enters after a 9-3 victory over Portland on Monday, powered by a 3-for-4, three-RBI performance from center fielder Max Hartman that included a home run. Hartman, a key player to watch, is 11 for 35 (.314) with a homer and six RBIs over his last 10 games.
Utah Tech (20-12) last played on April 4, falling 13-11 to Sacramento State in a high-scoring affair. A player to watch for the Trailblazers is reliever Aaron Morris, who provided 2 1/3 scoreless innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts in that loss. Morris’s recent outings have been inconsistent, however, including a tough appearance on March 27 where he allowed six earned runs while recording just two outs.
The Cougars’ pitching was sharp in their latest win, with Brock Blatter and Rylan Haider combining for six scoreless innings of two-hit relief. Washington State has won seven of its last 10 games.
Utah Tech had won five of six before the loss to Sacramento State, including a series victory over the same Hornets. The Trailblazers will be playing their first game in 11 days.
According to Interstat, the Cougars are projected as favorites. The game simulator predicts an 8-6 Washington State victory, while the ELO rating system gives the Cougars a 56.40% probability to win.
Following Wednesday’s contest, Washington State travels to Las Vegas for a three-game series at UNLV beginning Friday. Utah Tech opens a three-game in-state series at Utah Valley on Friday.
