Yale at Quinnipiac
Preview: Yale Bulldogs at Quinnipiac Bobcats
HAMDEN, Conn. (Interstat) — The Yale Bulldogs look to continue their strong season when they visit the Quinnipiac Bobcats for a non-conference matchup Wednesday at Quinnipiac Baseball Field.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature around 80 degrees.
Yale (19-10) enters with momentum, having won five of its last six games, including a 5-2 victory over Harvard on Sunday. The Bulldogs boast a potent offense, evidenced by a 20-run outburst against New Haven last week and a 16-run game against Penn in March.
A key player for Yale is pitcher Tate Evans. The right-hander has been dominant recently, allowing just one earned run over his last 13 2/3 innings spanning three appearances. In his last start Sunday, he threw 6 2/3 strong innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven in the win over Harvard.
Quinnipiac (14-19) snapped a three-game skid with a 6-2 win at Marist on Sunday. The Bobcats will look to pitcher Nick Balcom to provide a spark. Balcom was brilliant in relief against Marist, throwing 5 1/3 hitless innings with nine strikeouts while allowing one unearned run.
The Bobcats won the previous meeting this season, a 15-9 slugfest at home on March 18. In that game, Quinnipiac rallied from an early deficit, scoring 12 runs over the sixth and seventh innings. Balcom pitched a scoreless inning of relief in that victory.
Yale’s offense has been led by contributors like Garrett Larsen, who went 3 for 3 with an RBI in the Sunday win over Harvard. Quinnipiac shortstop Alex Irizarry is coming off a three-hit performance against Marist.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Yale is projected to win 8-5.
Following this game, Yale opens Ivy League play with a three-game series at Cornell this weekend. Quinnipiac begins a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at Canisius on Friday.
