BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — Samford completed a three-game Southern Conference sweep of Virginia Military Institute with a 5-3 victory Sunday at Joe Lee Griffin Stadium.

The Bulldogs erased an early three-run deficit. Luke Boykin’s two-run homer in the first inning tied it, and Jake Souders added a solo shot in the seventh for insurance. Souders finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs.

Samford starter Noah Berry earned the win, allowing one run over five innings. VMI reliever Hunter Sipe provided 4 1/3 strong innings of relief, yielding just one hit.

The Keydets managed seven hits but left the bases loaded in the ninth. Samford improved to .500 at 17-17, while VMI fell to 24-11.
