Stanford at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The Stanford Cardinal and Louisville Cardinals will conclude a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium, with both teams looking to claim the weekend set after a split of the first two games.

First pitch is scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature near 63 degrees.

Louisville (20-15) evened the series with a commanding 10-0 victory Saturday behind a strong start from right-hander Ethan Eberle, who tossed six scoreless innings. The host Cardinals will seek to carry that momentum into the series finale.

Stanford (15-16) will aim to rebound after being shut out. The Cardinal took the series opener 12-2 on Friday before Saturday’s offensive drought.

A player to watch for Stanford is reliever Andrew Shaw. In Saturday’s loss, he provided 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts. Over his last five appearances, he has not allowed an earned run in four of them.

Louisville will likely look for another quality start from Eberle (2-4, 5.40 ERA), who dominated Stanford’s lineup Saturday. In that outing, he struck out seven while scattering seven hits. His season has been inconsistent, however, including a five-walk, five-run performance at Duke on April 2.

The most recent simulation from Interstat projects a final score of Stanford 7, Louisville 3.

Following Sunday’s game, Louisville will host Western Kentucky on Tuesday before traveling to California for a weekend series. Stanford returns home to face Santa Clara on Wednesday before hosting Miami (FL) in a three-game ACC series starting Friday.
