Balcom’s Gem Leads Quinnipiac Past Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Nick Balcom struck out nine over 5 1/3 dominant innings Sunday, leading the Quinnipiac Bobcats to a 6-2 victory over the Marist Red Foxes in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at James J. McCann Baseball Field.

Balcom allowed just one earned run and did not surrender a hit before exiting. The Bobcats provided ample support early, scoring two unearned runs in the first inning on a James Marino single. Alex Irizarry and Peyton Vancas each added an RBI for Quinnipiac, which finished with 12 hits.

Marist scored its runs on a Scott Esposito RBI double in the sixth and a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. The Red Foxes managed seven hits. Quinnipiac improved to 14-19 overall, while Marist fell to 12-20.
