Quinnipiac at Marist
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Quinnipiac Bobcats and Marist Red Foxes will conclude a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series Sunday at James J. McCann Baseball Field.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. The forecast calls for clear skies and 56-degree temperatures.
Marist (12-19) has taken the first two games of the series, winning 7-5 on Friday and 9-2 on Saturday. The Red Foxes will look to secure the sweep behind a pitching staff that has limited Quinnipiac (13-19) to seven runs in the series.
A player to watch for Marist is right-hander Tyler Hartley, who earned the win Saturday with five innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits and striking out four. In his last three appearances, including a five-inning, one-run outing at Rider on April 3, Hartley has a 2.45 ERA over 16 innings.
Quinnipiac will aim to salvage the series finale and avoid a fifth straight loss. A key figure for the Bobcats is reliever Mike Poncini, who provided four scoreless innings of relief in Saturday’s defeat, allowing no hits and striking out three. Over his last five appearances, Poncini has a 3.00 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 11.1 innings, though he has been charged with two earned runs without recording an out in one outing during that stretch.
In Saturday’s loss, Quinnipiac shortstop Alex Irizarry went 3 for 4 with a home run. For Marist, third baseman Noel Rivera was a perfect 4 for 4 with an RBI.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Quinnipiac 6, Marist 5.
Following Sunday’s game, Quinnipiac will host Yale on Wednesday before a MAAC series at Canisius next weekend. Marist travels to face Rutgers on Tuesday before a conference series at Niagara.
