Maryland-Eastern Shore at Delaware State

LEIPSIC, Del. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum will meet Friday when the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks visit the Delaware State Hornets for a Northeast conference matchup at Soldier Field.

The game, scheduled for an evening first pitch under cloudy skies and 53-degree temperatures, features struggling squads. The Hawks enter at 5-23 overall, while the Hornets are 2-26.

Despite the records, Interstat’s projections offer a conflicting outlook. The game simulator predicts a narrow 2-1 victory for Maryland-Eastern Shore, while the ELO rating system gives Delaware State a 61.7% probability to win.

A player to watch for the Hawks is Marco Davila, who pitched two scoreless innings of relief in a 13-9 loss at Georgetown on Tuesday. For the Hornets, first baseman Justin Batts is coming off a powerful performance, going 3 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs in a 20-10 loss to Villanova on the same day.

Maryland-Eastern Shore has dropped four straight, including that midweek defeat to the Hoyas. Delaware State’s loss to Villanova extended its skid to five games.

The teams are set to play a three-game series this weekend, with games also scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Leipsic.

Following this series, the Hawks will host Mercyhurst for three games next weekend. The Hornets will travel to face Central Connecticut State in a three-game set next Friday through Sunday.
