Panthers Edge Aggies in Ninth on Smith’s Walk-Off Single
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — Christian Smith’s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in the winning run Tuesday, lifting High Point to a 3-2 victory over North Carolina A&T at Millis Center.
The Panthers, who improved to 22-10, rallied from an early two-run deficit. Smith finished with two RBIs, including a sacrifice fly in the fourth that tied the game 2-2.
North Carolina A&T (9-22) scored both its runs on High Point errors in the first and second innings. Aggies pitchers Agyei Quinichett and Diego Barrett combined for seven scoreless, hitless innings of relief, but Kobie Cushing took the loss after allowing the ninth-inning run.
Five High Point pitchers combined to allow just five hits and strike out 12. The teams will meet again next Tuesday in Greensboro.
