Highlanders Edge Buccaneers in Tight Midweek Contest
FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — Noah Toole homered and drove in two runs Tuesday to lift Radford to a 4-3 win over East Tennessee State at Radford Baseball Stadium.
The Highlanders, who improved to 15-14, rallied from an early deficit, tying the game in the fourth on Ben Simpson’s RBI double before Toole’s go-ahead single in the fifth. The Buccaneers (21-9) scored twice in the third on a sacrifice fly by Nick Conner and a groundout by Tommy Curless but managed just seven hits. Radford’s bullpen combined for 7 1/3 innings of relief, highlighted by Mason Self, Eli Baker and Hunter Howard. Stratton Scott threw 2 2/3 hitless innings for ETSU. The result defied a national statistical projection that heavily favored the Buccaneers.
