East Tennessee State at Radford
FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — A surging East Tennessee State squad aims to continue its winning ways when it visits a streaky Radford team in nonconference baseball action Tuesday at Radford Baseball Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon under cloudy skies with temperatures near 59 degrees.
The Buccaneers (21-8) enter with significant momentum, having won three of their last four games, including a 6-4 victory at Samford on Saturday. ETSU’s success has been built on strong pitching, led by standout Michael Harpster. The right-hander has been dominant in his last four starts, allowing just four earned runs over 22 innings with 20 strikeouts. He earned the win Saturday with five innings of two-run ball.
Radford (14-14) has alternated wins and losses over its last six games but is coming off a 10-5 home win over South Carolina Upstate on Saturday. The Highlanders will look to reliever Corey Costello to provide stability. Costello has been effective in recent outings, including 1 1/3 scoreless innings in Saturday’s victory, though he has struggled with command at times this season.
Offensively, ETSU shortstop Henry Ferguson is riding a hot bat, collecting two hits and an RBI in the Samford win. For Radford, shortstop Hunter Keen drove in three runs on three hits Saturday, while third baseman Junho Son added two hits and two RBIs.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, East Tennessee State is projected to win 7-5.
Following Tuesday’s contest, the Buccaneers will open a three-game series at Belmont on Friday. Radford hits the road for a weekend series at High Point beginning Friday.
