Michigan Rallies Past Central Michigan in Cross-State Showdown
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — The Michigan Wolverines erased an early four-run deficit with a five-run second inning to defeat the Central Michigan Chippewas 6-4 on Tuesday evening at Ray Fisher Stadium.
Central Michigan built its lead with four runs in the top of the first, but Michigan responded immediately. Brayden Jefferis and Anthony Longo drew back-to-back, bases-loaded walks in the bottom half. The Wolverines then sent 10 men to the plate in the second, keyed by an RBI triple from Evan Haeger and a run-scoring single from Jefferis.
Michigan reliever Brandon Mann earned top star honors, throwing 3 1/3 perfect innings to stifle the Chippewas’ offense. Five Central Michigan pitchers combined for 6 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, led by Jack Griffiths’ three hitless frames, but the early damage proved insurmountable.
The Wolverines improved to 18-14, while the Chippewas fell to 10-17.
