Nevada Looks to Continue Winning Ways at Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Nevada Wolf Pack, riding a strong start to the season, visit John Smith Field on Monday to face the struggling Sacramento State Hornets in a non-conference baseball matchup.

Nevada (15-10) enters having won four of its last six games, including a series victory at Washington State last weekend. The Wolf Pack fell 7-2 at Gonzaga in their most recent outing on March 30, but reliever Aiden Pollock provided a bright spot with 2 1/3 hitless innings.

Pollock, a player to watch for Nevada, has been a frequent bullpen option. He has been effective in recent appearances, allowing just two hits over his last 5 1/3 innings pitched, though he has been prone to allowing earned runs in short stints.

Sacramento State (12-20) snapped a three-game skid with a 13-11 road win at Utah Tech on Saturday. The Hornets’ offense was powered by right fielder Erick Dessens, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs.

Dessens is the key bat for the Hornets. He is 10 for his last 24 at the plate with three home runs and 12 RBIs over his past six games, providing a consistent threat in the middle of the lineup.

The Wolf Pack have found more consistency this season, while the Hornets have struggled to string wins together, losing eight of their last 12.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 victory for Nevada.

Following Monday’s contest, Nevada will host UC Davis on Tuesday before a weekend series against San Jose State. Sacramento State will stay home to face Fresno State on Tuesday before hosting Utah Valley for a three-game set starting Friday.
