Southern California at UCLA

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — A top-tier Big Ten series concludes Sunday afternoon with a marquee pitching rematch as Southern California visits UCLA at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.

The Trojans (27-4) and Bruins (27-2), two of the nation’s elite teams, will play the rubber match under clear skies with a first-pitch temperature of 87 degrees. The series is tied after UCLA’s 12-4 win Friday and a dramatic 8-8 tie on Saturday.

All eyes will be on the mound, where Southern California right-hander Mason Edwards is set to face UCLA left-hander Logan Reddemann in a repeat of Friday’s opener. Edwards (4-2, 3.12 ERA) seeks redemption after a tough outing, allowing three earned runs over 4 2/3 innings despite not surrendering a hit. He has been dominant otherwise, striking out 37 over his last 21 innings. Reddemann (8-0, 2.45 ERA) earned the win Friday, going six innings and allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

Both lineups are potent. For USC, Andrew Lamb, who homered Friday, provides power. UCLA’s offense, which exploded for 12 runs in the series opener, is led by hot hitters like Payton Brennan (.345, 28 RBIs) and Roman Martin, who also homered Friday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this heavyweight clash projects as a one-run affair, favoring the Trojans 8-7.

The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT. USC travels to UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, while UCLA visits Cal State Fullerton.
