Ohio State Blanks Maryland Behind Herrenbruck’s Arm, Secures Series Sweep
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — Pierce Herrenbruck led a dominant pitching performance as Ohio State shut out Maryland 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium to complete a three-game Big Ten series sweep.
Herrenbruck set the tone for the Buckeyes, allowing just four hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. The Ohio State bullpen combined for 3 1/3 hitless innings to seal the win.
The Buckeyes scored all the runs they would need with a five-run second inning. Henry Kaczmar delivered a two-run single, and Dane Harvey added another two-run single in the frame. Ohio State added two unearned runs late.
Maryland pitchers Andrew Koshy, Jake Yeager and James Gladden combined for 6 2/3 scoreless relief innings, but the Terrapins’ offense managed six hits and stranded multiple runners. Ohio State improved to 17-13 overall, while Maryland fell to 12-17.
