Wake Forest vs. Clemson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — Two of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s top teams will meet in a nonconference showcase when Wake Forest faces Clemson at Bank of America Stadium on Wednesday.

The Demon Deacons (20-8) enter with a slight edge in record over the Tigers (19-10) in a matchup of teams looking to build momentum for the heart of league play.

Wake Forest will look to rebound after dropping two of three at home to California, including a 5-3 loss on Sunday. The Demon Deacons’ bullpen has been a recent concern, but starter Troy Dressler provides a bright spot. The right-hander delivered a strong outing in Sunday’s loss, allowing one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Over his last three appearances, Dressler has racked up 22 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings.

Clemson is also seeking to steady itself after losing a home series to Miami, including an 8-6 defeat on Saturday. The Tigers’ offense will rely on catcher Jacob Jarrell, who homered and drove in three runs in that loss. Jarrell has shown consistent power, hitting four home runs in his last 10 games.

The game, part of the ACC’s early-season scheduling, shifts the diamond to the home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. Forecasts call for cloudy skies and a first-pitch temperature near 74 degrees.

A statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a 6-4 victory for Wake Forest.

Following this midweek contest, both teams face challenging road trips. Wake Forest opens an ACC series at Pittsburgh on Friday, while Clemson embarks on a West Coast swing with a three-game set at Stanford.
