Presbyterian at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Western Carolina team looks to continue its winning ways when it hosts struggling Presbyterian in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday at Hennon Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 67 degrees.

The Catamounts (18-11) enter riding high after a 16-3 rout of The Citadel on Sunday, a game in which they pounded out 16 hits. They have won seven of their last 10.

Presbyterian (5-23) seeks to halt a four-game skid after being swept in a weekend series at Samford, including a 5-0 loss Sunday. The Blue Hose have lost 12 of their last 14 games.

A key matchup will feature Presbyterian right-hander Tristan McGregor against Western Carolina’s potent lineup, led by hot-hitting outfielder Walker Fox.

McGregor has been a bright spot lately for the Blue Hose. In his last start on March 29, he threw four hitless innings with two strikeouts at Samford, though he allowed two earned runs. His season highlights include a dominant seven-inning, 11-strikeout performance in an 11-1 win over UNC Asheville on March 15.

He will need to be sharp against Fox, who is coming off a historic weekend. The Catamounts’ right fielder drove in 11 runs in the three-game series at The Citadel, including a 4-for-5, seven-RBI effort in Sunday’s blowout victory. Fox has three home runs and 13 RBIs in his last five games.

Western Carolina’s offense averages over seven runs per game during its 7-3 stretch. Presbyterian’s pitching staff has an ERA over 7.00 for the season and has been outscored 45-16 during its current four-game losing streak.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Western Carolina 6, Presbyterian 3.

Following Tuesday’s game, Western Carolina travels to face Winthrop for a three-game series starting Thursday. Presbyterian opens a three-game set at Charleston Southern on Thursday.
