Illinois State at Evansville
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Illinois State Redbirds will look to salvage the finale of their three-game Missouri Valley Conference series against the Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday afternoon at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 52 degrees.
The Redbirds (16-10, 0-2 MVC) seek to avoid a series sweep after dropping the first two contests, including a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. Evansville (7-17, 2-0) has won three of its last five.
Sunday’s matchup features a compelling pitching rematch from Saturday’s game. Illinois State will send right-hander Michael Addari to the mound. Despite being tagged with the loss in Saturday’s 4-0 defeat, Addari was brilliant, tossing six no-hit innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs. Over his last four starts, spanning 21 innings, he has allowed just 10 hits and three earned runs while striking out 22.
He will face Evansville’s Tanner Graham, who earned the win Saturday with seven shutout innings, allowing six hits and striking out eight. Graham’s recent outings have been inconsistent, but his dominant performance against the Redbirds makes him a key figure for the Purple Aces.
Illinois State’s offense, held to just two runs in the series, will aim to break through against Graham a second time. Brayden Bakes, who went 2-for-4 on Saturday, is a candidate to spark the lineup.
Evansville’s Charlie Longmeier, who drove in a run Saturday, looks to continue providing offensive support.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Illinois State is projected to win 8-3.
Following the game, Illinois State hosts Illinois on Tuesday. Evansville faces a doubleheader on Tuesday, visiting Butler and hosting Indiana.
