Pittsburgh at Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The Pittsburgh Panthers and Louisville Cardinals will settle a weekend series split in an Atlantic Coast Conference baseball finale Sunday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 47 degrees.
The Panthers (18-7, 4-4 ACC) evened the series with a 4-3 win Friday before the Cardinals (17-10, 3-5) responded with an 8-5 victory Saturday. Sunday’s rubber match features two of the conference’s top teams seeking momentum heading into the final stretch of March.
A key matchup will feature Pittsburgh’s hot-hitting Sebastian Pisacreta against a Louisville pitching staff he has already tagged. The Panthers’ designated hitter launched a three-run homer in Saturday’s loss and has driven in seven runs over his last five games.
Louisville is expected to lean on right-hander Colton Hartman, who started Saturday’s win. Hartman worked five innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out seven to earn the victory. His availability out of the bullpen could be pivotal.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring Pittsburgh 7-6.
The Panthers hold a slight edge in the overall standings, but Louisville has won six of its last eight home games. Following Sunday’s contest, Pittsburgh hosts Mercyhurst on Tuesday before an ACC series with Wake Forest. Louisville travels for a conference series at Duke beginning Thursday.
