Duke at Florida State
Preview: Duke at Florida State in ACC Baseball Series Finale
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida State Seminoles will aim for a series sweep when they host the Duke Blue Devils in an Atlantic Coast Conference baseball matchup Sunday at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature near 75 degrees.
Florida State (21-5, 5-3 ACC) has dominated the series so far, winning 3-1 on Friday and holding off a late Duke rally for a 12-11 victory Saturday. The Seminoles’ powerful offense has been on display, averaging 7.5 runs in the series.
A key contributor has been first baseman Myles Bailey. In Saturday’s win, he went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Over his last 10 games, Bailey is batting .344 with five homers and 18 RBIs, providing consistent production in the middle of the lineup.
Duke (17-12, 4-7) will look to salvage the final game of the three-game set and snap a three-game skid. The Blue Devils showed fight in Saturday’s loss, erasing a large deficit before falling short.
Center fielder Michael DiMartini was a bright spot in that game, going 2 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs. He will be a player to watch for Duke as it seeks more consistent offensive production.
The Seminoles have been one of the nation’s top teams this season, boasting a .808 winning percentage. Duke has struggled recently in conference play, dropping four of its last five ACC contests.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Florida State is projected to win 7-4.
Following the series, Duke returns home to face Davidson on Tuesday. Florida State hits the road for a midweek game at Stetson on Tuesday before a key ACC series at Virginia next weekend.
