Spartans Unleash Offensive Onslaught to Rout Broncos

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — San Jose State erupted for 18 runs on 16 hits to overwhelm Santa Clara 18-6 in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Stephen Schott Stadium.

The Spartans (11-12) scored 12 runs in the first three innings, powered by multiple home runs. Brent Cota led the barrage, going 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs. Rohne Klein added a homer and four RBIs, while Jake McCoy and Peyton Rowles also homered.

Peter Herrick provided 4 1/3 innings of hitless relief for San Jose State. Johnny Luetzow hit a two-run homer for the Broncos (9-14), who had eight hits.

The victory avenged an 8-6 loss to Santa Clara on Feb. 18.
