Preview: William & Mary Tribe at Old Dominion Monarchs

NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — In-state rivals William & Mary and Old Dominion, both seeking momentum near the midpoint of the season, will meet Tuesday at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

The nonconference matchup features two teams hovering around .500. The visiting Tribe (10-12) enters having won three straight, including an 11-10 victory over North Carolina A&T on Sunday. The Monarchs (11-11) look to rebound after dropping two of three at home to Appalachian State over the weekend, including a 10-6 loss Sunday.

A player to watch for William & Mary is Kevin Francella. The second baseman is coming off a powerful performance Sunday, going 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs in the win. He has four hits in his last three games.

Old Dominion will counter with outfielder Tyler Zedalis, who also homered and drove in three runs in his team’s most recent game. Zedalis is 7 for 24 (.292) with two homers and seven RBIs over his last seven contests.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 5-4 victory for William & Mary.

The game is scheduled for a first pitch under cloudy skies with temperatures around 56 degrees.

This contest is the first of a home-and-home series between the programs this season. They are scheduled to meet again in Williamsburg on April 7.

William & Mary will begin a Coastal Athletic Association series at UNC Wilmington on Friday. Old Dominion travels to face Richmond on Wednesday before opening Sun Belt Conference play at South Alabama this weekend.
