SAINT JOSEPH’S, NAVY SET FOR MIDWEEK NON-CONFERENCE CLASH

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Interstat) — The Saint Joseph’s Hawks and Navy Midshipmen meet in a non-conference midweek baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 57 degrees.

The Hawks (11-9) enter having won three straight, taking all three games in a weekend series against George Washington. Saint Joseph’s won the finale 7-5 on Sunday behind starter Luke Parise, who allowed two earned runs over six innings.

Parise, the Hawks’ player to watch, has been dominant in his last four starts, all wins. He has yielded just five earned runs over 24 innings pitched in that span, striking out 17.

The Midshipmen (15-8) look to rebound after a 3-1 loss to Bucknell on Sunday. Navy’s Owen Phypers took the loss despite a quality start, going seven innings and allowing three runs.

Phypers has been inconsistent recently. He fired seven scoreless innings in a win over Saint Bonaventure on March 1 but has taken losses in his last two outings, including a tough-luck defeat where he allowed no hits but three earned runs over 4 2/3 innings at Lehigh on March 15.

According to Interstat, the Hawks are a narrow favorite. Its game simulator projects an 8-5 Saint Joseph’s victory, and its ELO rating system gives the Hawks a 52.3% probability to win.

Following this game, Navy prepares for its annual Star Series showdown, visiting Army for a three-game set beginning Friday. Saint Joseph’s opens Atlantic 10 Conference play on the road at Fordham on Friday.
