Retrievers Overwhelm Eagles in High-Scoring Affair

ELKRIDGE, Md. (Interstat) — Danny Orr drove in six runs on three hits, including a first-inning triple, as Maryland-Baltimore County routed Coppin State 24-14 in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Joe Cannon Stadium.

The Retrievers (10-9) scored early and often, plating three runs in the first and capitalizing on Coppin State mistakes to build a massive lead. UMBC amassed 17 hits and used four sacrifice flies. The Eagles (3-16) chipped away, highlighted by Kenan Harvey’s four-hit, five-RBI day featuring a two-run homer and Noah Hogan’s grand slam, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Bennett Speicher threw two hitless innings of relief for UMBC. The result defied a pregame projection that favored a low-scoring Retrievers victory.
