Atlantic 10 Baseball Preview: Richmond at Fordham
NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Richmond Spiders and Fordham Rams will meet for the second game of their Atlantic 10 Conference series Saturday at Jim Houlihan Park at Jack Coffey Field.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature around 51 degrees.
Both teams enter at .500 overall. Richmond is 11-11, while Fordham is 10-10. The Rams took the series opener Friday afternoon, 8-4.
A key matchup will feature Richmond’s hot-hitting Evan Wilson against Fordham right-hander Beau Elson, who earned the win in Friday’s contest.
Wilson, the Spiders’ designated hitter, went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs in the loss. Over his last 10 games, he has three multi-hit performances and two home runs.
Elson delivered a quality start for the Rams on Friday, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over six innings with four strikeouts. His season has been marked by volatility, however, including a seven-run outing against Davidson on March 13 preceded by seven scoreless innings against Cornell on March 7.
According to Interstat, predictive models offer conflicting forecasts. The organization’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Fordham victory, while its ELO rating system gives Richmond a 54% probability to win.
Following Saturday’s game, the series finale is set for Sunday afternoon.
