Texas Tech at Dallas Baptist

DALLAS (Interstat) — In a wild midweek nonconference clash defined by a staggering early deficit and a relentless comeback, the Dallas Baptist Patriots stormed back from 10 runs down to defeat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 16-10 on Tuesday night at Ellis Davis Field House.

The game, played on March 17, 2026, appeared to be a blowout in the making as Texas Tech (13-7) sent 10 batters to the plate in a nightmarish first inning for Dallas Baptist starter Han Kroll. The Red Raiders capitalized on walks and a key error, with Caden Ferraro’s three-run single highlighting a six-run opening frame.

Texas Tech extended its lead to 10-0 in the second inning on a two-run homer by Robin Villeneuve and a solo shot from Connor Shouse, chasing Kroll after just one-plus inning. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a tight Texas Tech victory, but the Patriots (12-9) began a methodical and explosive reversal in the bottom of the second, scratching across an unearned run.

The most important part of the game arrived in the bottom of the fourth inning, where Dallas Baptist transformed the contest. Trailing 10-2, the Patriots batted around, sending 14 men to the plate and scoring seven runs on five hits, three walks, and two hit batters against three Texas Tech pitchers. The rally erased the monumental deficit in one sustained offensive outburst, tying the game and seizing all momentum. Chayton Krauss delivered a pivotal two-run single, and Cooper Neville followed with another two-run single to cap the inning and knot the score at 10-10.

From there, the Patriots’ bullpen took over. After Liam Watt provided three innings of middle relief, Armani Knipper, Aiden VanDeHatert, and Avery Duncan combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven to stifle the Red Raiders’ offense.

Dallas Baptist took its first lead at 11-10 on Ryan Martin’s solo homer in the sixth. The Patriots then broke the game open in the seventh on a two-run homer by Krauss and an RBI single from Dylan Schlaegel. The top star for Dallas Baptist, Ben Tryon, provided the final exclamation point with a two-run homer in the eighth inning, his second of the game. Tryon finished 2 for 5 with four RBIs.

For Texas Tech, Connor Shouse was a bright spot, going 3 for 6 with two home runs and three RBIs. The Red Raiders collected 11 hits but stranded numerous baserunners after their early outburst. Dallas Baptist out-hit Texas Tech 13 to 11.

The win marked a significant resilience test passed for Dallas Baptist, while Texas Tech was left to ponder a colossal missed opportunity. Both teams now look ahead to weekend road series, with Texas Tech traveling to Arizona and Dallas Baptist heading to Delaware.
