Hairston’s Grand Slam Powers Sun Devils’ Rally Past Horned Frogs in High-Scoring Affair

PHOENIX (Interstat) — Landon Hairston hit a go-ahead grand slam in a nine-run third inning as the Arizona State Sun Devils rallied from an early eight-run deficit to defeat the Texas Christian Horned Frogs 15-8 on Saturday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Horned Frogs built an 8-0 lead by the second inning, but the Sun Devils sent 14 batters to the plate in the third. Hairston’s slam, his seventh homer of the season, capped the outburst and gave Arizona State a 9-8 lead it never relinquished. He finished with four RBIs.

Dean Toigo went 5 for 5 with a solo homer for Arizona State, which improved to 13-5. Garrett Michel also homered and drove in three runs. Lucas Franco had four hits for TCU, which fell to 11-7. The teams conclude their Big 12 series Sunday.
