Preview: Texas-Arlington Mavericks at Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners

SAN ANTONIO (Interstat) — The surging Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners look to continue their dominant start when they host the struggling Texas-Arlington Mavericks in an afternoon game Saturday at Roadrunner Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. under clear skies with a forecast temperature of 77 degrees.

The Roadrunners (14-3) enter with one of the nation’s top records and have won 10 of their last 12 games. Their offense is powered by third baseman Josh Arquette, who is coming off a 3-for-5 performance with a home run and three RBIs in a 10-5 loss at Texas Tech on Wednesday. For the season, Arquette is batting .310 with two homers and 11 RBIs.

Conversely, the Mavericks (5-11) have lost seven of their last eight, including a 1-6 defeat at Oklahoma on Wednesday and a series-opening loss here Friday night. UTA has been held to two runs or fewer in five of those eight games.

A bright spot for the Mavericks has been reliever Kyle Winkler. The right-hander has not allowed a run or a hit over his last three appearances, spanning seven innings, with three strikeouts. He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings against Oklahoma.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, UTSA is projected to win 7-3.

The teams conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon.
