Texas-San Antonio at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — A six-run sixth inning fueled by a trio of home runs powered the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 10-5 comeback victory over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners on Wednesday evening at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The win evened the midweek series after the Roadrunners claimed a one-run victory on Tuesday. Texas Tech improved to 11-5, while Texas-San Antonio fell to 14-3.

The Roadrunners built an early lead, capitalizing on patient at-bats and timely hitting. Christian Hallmark launched a solo home run down the right field line in the second inning. In the third, Josh Arquette scored on a Christian Hallmark single, and Arquette then extended the lead in the fourth with a two-run homer to right center, scoring Miller Cade for a 5-0 advantage.

Texas Tech’s offense, held to just one hit through the first five innings, erupted in the bottom of the sixth. The rally began with Lopez tripling down the left field line. Connor Shouse, the game’s top star, followed by launching a two-run homer down the right field line to cut the deficit to 5-3. After a single and a double, a groundout brought in another run. Then, Robin Villeneuve delivered the decisive blow, a two-run homer to right center that gave Texas Tech its first lead at 6-5. The inning continued as AJ Goytia capped the explosive frame with a two-run shot to right center, pushing the lead to 8-5.

The Red Raiders added insurance in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Villeneuve singled up the middle, driving in two more runs to make it 10-5.

The most important part of the game was Texas Tech’s sixth-inning surge, which completely reversed the momentum. After being stifled by Roadrunners pitching, the Red Raiders sent 11 men to the plate, recorded five hits including three home runs, and transformed a five-run deficit into a three-run lead in a single inning.

Villeneuve finished 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. Shouse went 2 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs, continuing a strong stretch at the plate. Goytia added a home run and two RBIs.

For the Roadrunners, Arquette led the offense, going 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Hallmark had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs. The Texas Tech bullpen was dominant, with four relievers combining for 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Jesse Rusinek earned the win with 1 2/3 perfect innings of relief, striking out three.

Texas-San Antonio will host Texas-Arlington for a three-game series starting Friday. Texas Tech will open a three-game home series against Kansas on Friday.
