Texas-San Antonio at Texas Tech
Preview: Hot-Hitting Roadrunners Visit Red Raiders in Midweek Clash
LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — Two of the state’s hottest baseball teams will meet Wednesday when the UTSA Roadrunners visit the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a nonconference midweek matchup at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
First pitch is scheduled for the evening under clear skies and a temperature near 68 degrees.
UTSA (13-2) brings one of the nation’s best early records to Lubbock, though the Roadrunners are coming off a 5-4 loss at New Mexico State on Sunday that snapped a five-game winning streak. Texas Tech (10-4) has won six of its last seven, including a weekend sweep of Penn State where the Red Raiders outscored the Nittany Lions 50-17.
The game features a pair of surging hitters. UTSA first baseman Caden Miller is a key power threat, coming off a 3-for-4 performance with a home run and two RBIs in Sunday’s loss. Over his last 10 games, Miller has driven in 12 runs.
For Texas Tech, third baseman Connor Shouse is riding a nine-game hitting streak. He went 7-for-12 with seven RBIs in the Penn State series, including a 4-for-5, three-RBI outing in Sunday’s 14-4 win.
The Red Raiders won the first meeting of this brief series, defeating UTSA on Tuesday. Wednesday’s contest serves as a final tune-up before both teams open conference play this weekend. UTSA hosts Texas-Arlington in a Conference USA series, while Texas Tech welcomes Kansas to open Big 12 play.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Wednesday’s matchup projects to be a high-scoring affair, with a predicted final score of UTSA 8, Texas Tech 7.
