South Carolina Upstate vs. Wofford
WOFFORD, S.C. (Interstat) — The Wofford Terriers, riding a strong start to the season, will host the struggling South Carolina Upstate Spartans in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening at Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 71 degrees.
The Terriers (10-5) enter having won seven of their last ten, though they are coming off a 3-2 series-finale loss at Belmont on Sunday. Wofford’s strength has been its pitching, and right-hander Alec Bouchard has been a key contributor. In his last start, also against Belmont, Bouchard took a hard-luck loss, striking out seven and allowing just two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings despite not surrendering a hit. On the season, he has a 1.69 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 16 innings across three appearances.
The Spartans (7-10) look to halt a five-game skid, all on the road, including a three-game sweep at then-Texas where they were outscored 38-14. Upstate’s offense will lean on catcher Tyler Lang, who has been a bright spot during the difficult stretch. Lang is 11 for his last 33 (.333) with a home run and six RBIs over the team’s last ten games. He went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in Sunday’s 13-3 loss to the Longhorns.
Wofford holds a distinct advantage in the early-season trajectory. The Terriers’ .667 winning percentage contrasts sharply with Upstate’s .412 mark. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Wofford is projected to extend its success with a 7-4 victory.
Following this midweek contest, Wofford will prepare for a five-game homestand beginning Wednesday against the College of Charleston. South Carolina Upstate continues its road swing before opening a three-game series at home against High Point on Friday.
