Hokies Salvage Finale, Snap Yellow Jackets’ Win Streak

ATLANTA (Interstat) — Virginia Tech avoided a series sweep with a 9-6 victory over Georgia Tech in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Hokies (8-7, 1-2 ACC) scored twice in the first inning and never trailed, amassing 14 hits. Sam Grube went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Reliever Preston Crowl earned the win with three perfect innings and four strikeouts, a sharp rebound after recent struggles.

Georgia Tech (12-2, 2-1) saw its 11-game win streak end despite two-run homers from Ryan Zuckerman and Vahn Lackey. The Yellow Jackets closed to 9-6 by the fifth but stranded the tying run in the eighth.

Virginia Tech’s early offense held against five Georgia Tech pitchers. The Hokies host Virginia next weekend, while Georgia Tech visits Clemson.
