Rain Expected as Bearcats Host Tritons in Series Finale
CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The UC San Diego Tritons will look to avoid a four-game sweep and snap a six-game skid when they face the surging Cincinnati Bearcats in an afternoon contest Sunday at Marge Schott Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 65-degree temperatures and rain.
The series has been one-sided, with Cincinnati (12-4) outscoring UC San Diego (4-9) by a combined 38-9 over the first three games. The Bearcats won 13-3 on Friday behind two home runs and five RBIs from Christian Mitchelle and two homers and four RBIs from Quinton Coats.
A player to watch for the Tritons is first baseman Gabe Camacho, who is 4 for 9 with a home run and four RBIs in the series. He went 2 for 3 with a homer and three RBIs in Friday’s loss.
Cincinnati is expected to start right-hander Logan Knight (1-2, 6.75 ERA), who dominated the Tritons in relief on Friday, throwing five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 16-1 victory.
The Bearcats have won 10 of their last 11 games. UC San Diego’s last win was an 8-7 victory over San Diego on Feb. 24.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 victory for Cincinnati.
Following the game, UC San Diego travels to face Cal State Northridge for a three-game series starting March 13. Cincinnati hosts Evansville on Tuesday before a four-game road trip to Utah.
