Tommies Pound Jayhawks, Salvage Finale of Four-Game Series

LAWRENCE, Kan. (Interstat) — Saint Thomas (Minn.) erupted for 13 runs on 15 hits to rout Kansas 13-2 on Sunday, avoiding a series sweep and snapping a five-game skid.

The Tommies (2-11) scored in five different innings, breaking the game open with a five-run seventh. Adam Puder led the onslaught, going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Lucas McNellis added a solo home run.

Three Saint Thomas pitchers combined to hold the Jayhawks (10-5) to one hit. Starter Evan Esch threw four hitless innings for the win. Kansas managed only two unearned runs, both scoring on groundouts.

The result defied statistical projections that heavily favored the Jayhawks. Saint Thomas had lost the first three games of the series by a combined 24-15 margin.
