Texas-San Antonio at New Mexico State
Roadrunners, Aggies Set for Game 2 in Las Cruces
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Interstat) — The surging Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners look to continue their dominant start when they face the New Mexico State Aggies in the second game of a weekend series Saturday at Presley Askew Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. MDT under clear skies with a temperature near 60 degrees.
UTSA (11-1) brings a seven-game winning streak into the contest, having opened the series with a victory on Friday. The Roadrunners’ .917 winning percentage ranks among the nation’s best, fueled by an offense averaging over eight runs per game during their streak. They are coming off a 7-5 midweek win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
New Mexico State (5-6) seeks to even the series after snapping a two-game skid with an 8-6 win over in-state rival New Mexico on Tuesday. The Aggies’ offense showed life in that victory, collecting 12 hits.
A key matchup will feature bullpen arms. UTSA’s Mike DeBattista has been exceptional in relief, most notably throwing 4 1/3 hitless innings with four strikeouts on Tuesday. Over his last three appearances, he has a 3.86 ERA in 8 1/3 innings.
The Aggies will counter with reliever Colton Sneddon, who has provided stability with 2 2/3 scoreless innings against New Mexico. In his last three outings spanning 8 2/3 innings, he has a 4.15 ERA.
UTSA’s offense is paced by Christian Hallmark, who homered and drove in two runs in the midweek win. For New Mexico State, Tommy Meluskey hit a key home run in the rivalry victory, while Aidan Taclas added two RBIs.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, UTSA is projected to win 8-5.
The series concludes Sunday before both teams embark on challenging non-conference road trips. UTSA visits Texas Tech for two games next week, while New Mexico State travels to face Dallas Baptist.
