The Tigers, now 14-1, trailed 4-2 after the top of the first but responded immediately and never looked back. Jarren Purify led the onslaught with a two-run homer in the third inning as part of a 12-hit attack. Jacob Jarrell also homered for Clemson, and Nate Savoie drove in three runs.

Ryan Perez hit a two-run homer for the Explorers (8-5), who managed just five hits. Six Clemson pitchers combined to seal the win after starter Ariston Veasey allowed four early runs. The teams met again for the second game of the twinbill later Saturday.
