La Salle at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. (Interstat) — The Clemson Tigers look to continue their dominant start when they host the La Salle Explorers in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 70-degree temperatures and rain. The teams opened their three-game series Friday with a 14-1 Clemson victory.

The Tigers (12-1) have won 12 straight since a season-opening loss, outscoring opponents 98-30 during the streak. Their pitching staff has been formidable, a trend continued by Dylan Harrison in Friday’s win. The right-hander threw four innings of one-run ball, striking out five. In his last two appearances, he has allowed one earned run over seven innings.

La Salle (8-3) saw its five-game winning streak snapped decisively in the series opener. The Explorers will seek a sharper performance from a bullpen that allowed 12 runs Friday. A player to watch is reliever Dante Edwardi, who provided a bright spot with two hitless innings in the loss despite allowing one earned run.

The Explorers’ offense, which averaged 9.4 runs during its recent win streak, was stifled by four Clemson pitchers. Chase Swain accounted for La Salle’s only run with a solo home run.

Clemson’s offense was powered by Tryston McCladdie, who homered and drove in three runs Friday, and supported by three scoreless relief innings from Justin LeGuernic.

Despite Friday’s lopsided result and Clemson’s strong pitching, Interstat’s game simulator projects a close contest, favoring La Salle 8-7.

The second game of the doubleheader will begin approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
