Massachusetts-Lowell at San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Francisco Dons look to build on a .500 start when they host the struggling Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks in the second game of a three-game series Saturday evening at Dante Benedetti Diamond at Max Ulrich Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with temperatures near 67 degrees.
The Dons (6-5) took the series opener Friday, shutting out the River Hawks. San Francisco will turn to right-hander Adrian Valdez in the rematch. Valdez has been effective despite an 0-2 record, most recently allowing one earned run over five innings with five strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to California Baptist on March 1.
He will be opposed by Massachusetts-Lowell righty Jacob Jette, who has been a bright spot for the River Hawks (1-5). Jette delivered 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief in his last appearance, a 10-2 loss to Indiana State on Feb. 22.
The River Hawks arrive in the Bay Area mired in a five-game skid after being outscored 50-27 in that stretch. Their lone win came at Morehead State on Feb. 13. San Francisco has been inconsistent but holds a winning record, coming off a series loss to California Baptist last weekend.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 victory for the Dons.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon before Massachusetts-Lowell continues its West Coast trip with a game at Sacramento State on Tuesday. San Francisco will host the series finale Sunday before a week off ahead of a road series at UC Riverside starting March 13.
